Dragon Gate USA and the wrestling comic book Headlocked have announced a cross-promotional partnership that will help raise their profiles in the other’s respective markets.

Beginning with Wizard World Chicago on August 7th-9th, Headlocked writer/creator Mike Kingston will have Dragon Gate USA promotional material available at all comic book conventions at which Headlocked is featured. Kingston appears with WWE Hall of Famer, Jerry “The King” Lawler, who is the cover artist for the highly acclaimed comic book series (as well as a special guest for an autograph signing on DGUSA’s debut show in Chicago on Sept 6th along with Jim Ross).

For Kingston, the partnership is simply an extension of what he has already been doing with Headlocked. “One of my missions with the comic has always been to promote wrestling companies that are an alternative to what you can find on Cable TV. Every issue of Headlocked features a column entitled “Under the Radar” where we promote various wrestlers, matches, and promotions to hopefully get them a little exposure to the casual wrestling audience who find their way to the book. And while wrestling and comic books have always enjoyed a natural crossover of fans, I think there a lot of elements to DGUSA’s presentation that will really connect with the comic book audience and take that crossover even further.”

And while Headlocked works with a variety of independent wrestling companies, the DGUSA partnership goes beyond promotional. “When I heard that Gabe Sapolsky was involved with Dragon Gate USA, I definitely wanted to help out. In all honesty, Headlocked most likely wouldn't exist without Gabe’s contributions to the wrestling business. Back in 2004, I was completely burnt out on wrestling and if I hadn't discovered Ring of Honor, I'm not entirely certain that my fandom would have survived. Certainly not to the point that I'm writing a comic book that’s essentially a love letter to the craft of professional wrestling.”
