Davey Richards made one thing clear in his Dragon Gate USA debut on September 6th in Chicago after wrestling Shingo in a match of the year candidate. He is in Dragon Gate USA to stay and he wants to be the first Open The Freedom Gate Champion. Need proof? Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PSO32onIyU

Richards' shocking actions towards Bryan Danielson sent a message to the entire Dragon Gate USA locker room and fanbase. This wasn't just something directed solely at Danielson. Richards was using "American Dragon" to show that he is stronger than ever, has the confidence of a champion and that no one will stand in his path to the top. More importantly, Richards has moved past the point in his career where he needs accolades from his peers or the cheers of the crowd. He knows how good he is and his time is now.

"The hunt never stops," Richards told DGUSA.tv. "It has now brought me to Dragon Gate USA and the kill is becoming the first Open The Freedom Gate Champion. There was a point in my life when I would sit humbly in the locker room and keep my head down and let people like Bryan Danielson talk down to me. No more. I'm now entering my prime and everyone better take notice. The hunt is just beginning for me in DGUSA."

Richards has set his sights on the richest prize in DGUSA and a place in the history books. The first Open The Freedom Gate Champion, the top singles title in DGUSA, will be decided on November 28th in Philadelphia in a tournament. Richards was the first man to petition to be in the chase for the gold. DGUSA officials were thrilled to sign such a skilled athlete to compete for what is sure to be a prestigious title.

"You have to question the demeanor of Davey Richards for what he did in Chicago," DGUSA VP Gabe Sapolsky said. "But you can't question his ability in the ring and the fact that he is ace material. We are looking for the most athletic competitors and Davey is at the top of any list. Now we will find other great fighters from Japan, Mexico and the United States so the hunt won't be easy for Richards."

"I welcome the challenge," Richards said. "I wanted to wrestle Shingo in my DGUSA debut so I could immediately prove my point against the best. I know CIMA and Mike Quackenbush are both set for the tournament and you are talking the icon of Dragon Gate and face of CHIKARA right there. I'm looking forward to seeing who else is announced because I know the better the wrestler, the more it will mean when I'm standing on top in the end and going in the history books as the first Open The Freedom Gate Champion."
