The foundation of Dragon Gate USA was set over the first three shows
with the "Open The Gate" trilogy. All three of these events
are now out on DVD and available in the DGUSA.tv Store
or by calling 267-519-9744.
It all started on July 25th, 2009 with "Open The Historic Gate"
(which won 2009 Wrestling Observer Awards Show Of The Year). The meaning
behind this show was simple. It was a night of history. Dragon Gate
USA was here and made an immediate statement. It all started with BxB
Hulk vs. YAMATO showcasing the Dragon Gate style at its best. From there,
fans were introduced to fresh matches and talent including the incredible
CHIKARA 8 man, the start of the Dragon Kid vs. Masato Yoshino rivalry,
the emergence of The Young Bucks as they stole the show vs. CIMA &
Susumu Yokosuka and then the hard-hitting main event of Shingo vs. Naruki
Doi. It only took DGUSA one night to make an impact on the North American
wrestling scene. History was made.
It continued on September 6th, 2009 with "Open The Untouchable
Gate" from Chicago. Not only was the name an ode to the history
of Chi-town, but it made a statement. The style and wrestlers of DGUSA
are untouchable. These are the premiere athletes in the world presenting
the premium pro wrestling brand. DGUSA mixed things up on this event
matching top American talent in dream matches against Japan's best.
The result was two bouts that finished in the top 4 of the 2009 Wrestling
Observer Awards Match Of The Year in Naruki Doi vs. Bryan Danielson
and Shingo vs. Davey Richards. The rest of the card featured one quality
contest after another including the continuation of the Dragon Kid vs.
Masato Yoshino feud, Mike Quackenbush & Jigsaw vs. YAMATO &
Gran Akuma in a grudge tag match, CIMA vs. Brian Kendrick and The Young
Bucks vs. Genki Horiguchi & Ryo Saito. These matches all showed
why the quality of DGUSA is untouchable.
The first chapter and third part of the trilogy came to an end with
"Open The Freedom Gate" on November 28th, 2009 in Philadelphia.
Freedom is an important word for DGUSA. It means the wrestlers can come
compete with no restraints or restrictions. They are free to give the
fans the best performance possible. This event featured a one night
tournament with a unique format to determine the first Open The Freedom
Gate Champion. The tourney featured four first round matches, all bringing
a different style and never before seen match ups. The four winners
then battled in the main event elimination match to determine the first
Freedom Gate Champion. It all came full circle from the first show here.
First round qualifying bouts included Matt Jackson vs. Nick Jackson
vs. Hallowicked vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Lince Dorado vs. Gran Akuma in
an action packed bout, BxB Hulk vs. Brian Kendrick in a first time ever
contest, Super Crazy vs. CIMA vs. Mike Quackenbush vs. Jorge Rivera
in a Lucha Libre spectacle and YAMATO vs. Davey Richards in a must see
battle. Not only that, but the Dragon Kid vs. Masato Yoshino rivalry
delivered its most exciting match yet as Kid teamed with Shingo to take
on Yoshino and Naruki Doi, another nod to the very start of this chapter.
These bouts all proved that everyone wrestles with freedom in DGUSA.
Now all these events are available as double DVD sets in the DGUSA.tv
Store or by calling 267-519-9744. Each DVD set
