It all started simply enough on July 25th, 2009 at "Open The Historic Gate" when Dragon Gate USA presented its first event. Now on July 24th, 2010 at the "1st Anniversary Celebration" in Philadelphia at The Arena it will come to a violent end.
Let's go back to the premiere DGUSA event. The CHIKARA eight man tag team match had just stolen the show with a sensational bout. Mike Quackenbush, feeling pride for his students and the promotion he founded, issued a simple challenge. Quack wanted to see how the best from CHIKARA would fare against the top athletes of Dragon Gate. YAMATO answered, but then took things in an unexpected direction.
First, YAMATO insulted Quackenbush in Japanese. Then, he blindsided him with a low blow. Jigsaw tried to make the save, but Gran Akuma turned his back on his home CHIKARA promotion and kicked Jigsaw low. The first shots were fired. This led to the second DGUSA event, "Open The Untouchable Gate" in Chicago. Quackenbush & Jigsaw scored a hard-fought victory over YAMATO & Gran Akuma, even though Jigsaw was battling a knee injury. However, YAMATO won the war by choking out Quackenbush after the match. Even though the two sides did not cross paths on the third show, Quackenbush voiced his disdain sternly on commentary.
"I had no intentions of things going this far," Quackenbush said. "It was a simple challenge. I wanted to see how the CHIKARA roster would fare against the Dragon Gate roster. YAMATO destroyed any hope of sportsmanship. He has damaged the relationship beyond repair. Now one year later, on July 24th in Philadelphia, we will get our revenge. This has to end."
The first DGUSA event of 2010, "Fearless" back in Chicago, saw Quackenbush have a fleeting moment of revenge as he jumped YAMATO in the wild melee that closed the show (watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAsRgaRpF58). The rage of Quackenbush, Jigsaw and the rest of CHIKARA on YAMATO and Gran Akuma seemed to make the Kamikaze USA members hesitant in Phoenix. YAMATO stayed far away from the CHIKARA team on DGUSA's double shot in Arizona.
However, Kamikaze USA was just regrouping and formulating a new plan. They launched a full strength, all-out-assault on CHIKARA Sekigun in both Windsor and Toronto (watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUifRNiynuc). Once again, YAMATO, Gran Akuma and their troops escalated the issue.
"I promise you that July 24th will be a night that no one in Kamikaze USA will ever forget," Jigsaw said. "You thought you were clever by bringing things full circle in Toronto by kicking me and Quack low again. Well, now you'll see how low we can go. We are coming to Philly for one thing and that's revenge."
We know it will be Kamikaze USA vs. CHIKARA Sekigun in some form on July 24th in Philadelphia. Who should be in the match? What kind of match should it be? Leave us a comment and voice your opinion. |
